These are fabric dresser drawers. Can you get excited about drawers? We are. What does that say about us? Good things. Very good things.
We endeavor for minimalism. That proves difficult because we continue to accrue belongings. We had two wooden dresser drawers in our bedroom. That seemed to us as one too many. They consumed more space than we thought prudent. We wanted to open things up.
Meanwhile, our bedroom contains a nook that we underutilized. The rectangular space has a window on the east end, walls on the north and south ends, and an opening on the west end with 18” of wraparound walls on each side.
In theory, it would make for a perfect dressing area. The problem? Furniture more than 18” deep would protrude and be unsightly. We could not have that. If you have ever sought after furniture that is less than 18” deep, you would discover—as we did—that the feat proves challenging. A while back, we found shoe drawers from IKEA that “fit” the bill. But we only have so many shoes and only needed so many shoe drawers (two), and the opposite wall sat vacant for years.
But then we found these fabric dressers on Amazon. They are affordable. They are sleek. And, most importantly, they are 11.8” deep. We purchased two. In one, we store socks, underwear, undershirts, shorts, and athletic-wear. In the other, well, our wife uses it. We don’t know what she keeps in it. That’s her business.
Yes, the dressers must be assembled, but assembly went quickly. The box didn’t contain a million little pieces that exploded everywhere—just the steel frames, the wooden top and handles, the fabric drawers, and some screws. The dressers can be anchored to the wall for added security. We’d understand if you were considered about flimsiness, but the dressers are surprisingly sturdy.
Admittedly, these dressers might not be the answer for every situation. They aren’t showpieces. They aren’t heirlooms: we won’t pass them along to future generations. But that’s the point, isn’t it? These dressers, for us, are perfect for their time and place. Down the road, when we’re done with them, when they have served their purpose, we’ll get new dressers.
