Much to the chagrin of our neighbors, we adore listening to music outside. We have two outdoor speakers hung above opposite ends of the patio. In our younger days, we would host friends for late-night bonfires and play our music way too late and way too loud. We’ve matured, though. We have more respect and less stamina.
Using Google Chromecast Audio devices, we’ve integrated the outdoor speakers with all of our indoor speakers so that we have seamless, whole-home audio. To accomplish that, we require strong, fast internet, and while we have a NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S that does a nice job, we still needed a boost. This NETGEAR AC2200 Mesh WiFi Extender does the trick, utilizing mesh Wi-Fi network technology.
Admittedly, we had some difficulty with the installation. We could not get our devices, either our Google Pixel 3 or our laptop, to connect to the extender to join our existing Wi-Fi network. But then, we discovered that if we pushed a button on the extender and a button on the router, they linked up and got everything square.
The extender not only boosts our signal to the patio, but we’ve now got a strong connection throughout the backyard. That helps when we’re listening to podcasts while doing yardwork.
