The subtitle of this article is “done in no time” because the Instant Pot is set to cook at high pressure for “0” minutes. Don’t be misled, though. The recipe requires several minutes. The machine will build to high pressure but, once it is achieved, will begin immediately the process of releasing the pressure. We’re just clarifying the time element up front. No deception here. Everything’s on the up and up.
Speaking of which, we hate it when every Tom, Dick, and Harry on social media claim to be “obsessed” with the latest fad. They likely aren’t. Instead, that’s a ruse. A fiction. Who gets obsessed so easily? That behavior doesn’t sound heathy. But here’s something we have recently come to appreciate. Something that we really enjoy. Something that we are endeavoring to do with more frequency. That is steaming fresh green beans in the Instant Pot and serving them with butter and sea salt flakes. Exotic? No. But the green beans soak up the butter and burst with deliciousness. Like buttered popcorn. But instead, a green vegetable.
Heathy? Purhaps. Green beans provide a good source of vitamins and minerals. They contain significant amounts of Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and folate, as well as dietary fiber, which aids digestion. They’re also a good source of Vitamin A, and minerals such as calcium, iron, and manganese. Green beans are high in antioxidants.
Green beans themselves are low in calories and fat. Of course, we’ve added butter here, so there’s that. The fiber, potassium, and folate in green beans all support heart health. But again, the butter—and the salt.
A good side dish should complement the flavors of the main course without overpowering it. That’s precisely what green beans do with their subtly sweet, slightly earthy flavor. They are versatile, pairing well with many different types of foods, such as poultry, fish, and meat. And can be seasoned and spiced to fit a variety of cuisines. For instance, you can use garlic and olive oil for an Italian vibe, sesame oil and soy sauce for an Asian flair, or keep it simple—like we did—with butter and salt.
Have we convinced you about the merit of green beans? If we haven’t, then why are you still reading this article? So let’s get on with it. Here’s the recipe, old sport.
