Last summer, we visited Yellowstone, and since then, we’ve developed an affinity for bison. The geological features—geysers and hot springs—are one-of-a-kind. We took some fantastic hikes. It’s hard to beat dipping your toes in a cold mountain stream. But the herds of bison roaming through the Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley, those captured of our imagination. Something about the wide-open majesty of the American West.
The best item that we took to Yellowstone was a telephoto lens, which means that we captured thousands of beautiful photos, many of bison. Crossing the road. Calves clinging to mothers. Males clashing for dominance. We printed a poster-sized one for our office and another for our bedroom.
Because that wasn’t enough, and because we had antique books requiring bookends, we acquired these beautiful gold buffalo bookends from Amazon.
What is there to say about bookends that hasn’t been said before? These are sturdy, well-crafted and detailed. They hold our books firmly in place, which satisfies their express purpose. Functional, beautiful, a little expensive. Admittedly, $39.99 is a bit steep for bookends. But these sit on a roll-top desk that we inherited from our material grandfather and hold books that we inherited from our paternal grandfather, so they’re worth the spurge. Perhaps, someone will inherent them from us someday.
