You will read this recipe once. Don’t bookmark it. Don’t print it. There’s no reason to read it twice. Why? Because this is the simplest recipe on the internet. Easier than chocolate milk. Easier than boxed macaroni and cheese. A microwave meal? That’s a gotcha question: microwaving a meal isn’t really a recipe. But, this process is about as easy, especially those meals for which you have to stop microwaving midstream to poke holes in the plastic film.
Chicken wings are delicious. We know it. You know it. The American people know it. You needn’t fry chicken wings in oil. Instead, you can cook them in an air fryer. The skin comes out just as crispy. The meat comes out just as juicy.
How? Season the chicken wings. Cook the chicken wings in the air fryer at 400°F for seven minutes on one side, then seven minutes on the other side. Remove and eat the chicken wings (after letting cool). See, it’s easy. Maybe too easy.
Feel free to experiment with seasoning. Salt and pepper works perfectly. So does barbeque rub. (We like Cowtown Sweet Spot Barbeque Rub.) And Old Bay. And lemon pepper seasoning.
We have to continue writing words. Don’t blame us. It is because of SEO. Unless we drivel on, you will never find this article in your Google machine. If you don’t come across this article, you can’t make these delicious chicken wings. We don’t make the rules that govern the internet.
We lived abroad in Romania for two years. We yearned for many American foods. The one that we craved most: chicken wings. Of course, they had chickens there, and those chickens had wings. Romanian cuisine, despite its many splendors, offers nothing akin to a spicy buffalo wing.
After we returned stateside, we moved to Chicago. There was a bar in Lincoln Park, Lion Head Pub, which offered all-you-can-eat wings on Friday evenings at a very reasonable price. We’d go and eat and eat and eat until we couldn’t eat any more. It was glorious. We gained some weight during this period.
Despite enjoying chicken wings so much, though, we never cooked them ourselves. We, as a rule, don’t deep fry. We eat lots of fried food. But we only indulge when dining out because if we purchased a deep fryer, that’d be bad for us.
Technology has advanced. We might not have flying cars or robot butlers. But we do have the ability to make chicken wings without oil with an air fryer, an important breakthrough which should not be diminished. Here’s how:
Air Fryer Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- Eight chicken wings
- Salt and pepper, for seasoning
Directions
Preheat the air fryer at 400°F. Season the chicken wings.
Cook the chicken wings seven minutes on side, then flip and cook seven minutes on the other side. Place wings in air fryer so that each rests squarely against the bottom to the basket. That is, do not stack the wings on top of one another. Depending on the size of the air fryer, you might need to run two shifts.
Remove the chicken wings, let them cool, and eat them.
Depending on your preferences, you can toss the cooked chicken wings in buffalo sauce or dip them in buffalo or blue cheese sauce.
